Underneath it All: Simplifying Your Undergarment Organization

It's time for me to mention your unmentionables.

You see what I did there?

Organized Undergarments

If I have yet to drive you away at this point, then let's dive into organizing your undergarments. There are several tactics you can take, depending on your organizing style. Some people have mental hurdles putting away their freshly laundered clothing, so their style will lean toward the easiest methods of storing their skivvies. Others may put more thought into their underthings, so they require a storage method that makes it easier to pick the appropriate undergarments for the day. So, let's explore the different options so you can determine the right organizing style for you!

The Quick Method

The undergarments you wear won't matter for most everyday situations. No one is expected to see them aside from yourself. You could blindly pull a pair of panties out of your drawer and be good to go.

If you have challenges motivating yourself to put clothing away, consider removing one of the obstacles to that dreaded task by not folding your underwear.

Of course, you may already not fold your underwear. Or you do a simple half fold and pile your panties in your drawer.

However, when your drawer is used for other undergarments like bras or stockings, the piles flow into one another. It'll be more challenging to do the brainless "grab and go" because you have to ensure that what you're grabbing is what you need.

Here's the quick fix for that: drawer dividers. You can segment your drawers into segments reserved for panties, socks, shapewear, and whatever other needs you have.

Suppose you have shelf space that you'd rather utilize over dresser drawers. In that case, you can use bins to keep your undergarments organized. Each bin can hold a specific category of undergarments. You can choose the fabric bins that can hold quite a bit. If you need a more visual container, a plastic tub will do the trick. Whatever you prefer, you can plop a label on to help you distinguish what holds what. When it comes time to put away the laundry, all you have to do is plop the garments in the designated bin.

There are a couple of downsides to this method. First, it doesn't use the storage space efficiently. Piling items leaves a lot of dead space. You may think you can push more in the bin or drawer. But daily use will cause overstuffed drawers to spill out, and before you know it, you have loose panties behind your drawer. You must pull the entire thing out to grab the fallen soldier so your drawer can close fully. That's a true pain in the butt. It will also be essential to declutter these drawers and bins regularly to ensure you can easily access your underthings.

If You Are Pickier About Your Undergarments

Some people are more mindful of the undergarments they wear daily. They may want to pick out specific undergarments to feel confident. Others are dating or want to be prepared for their partners when their outer garments come off. Still, others choose their undergarments based on the lines and silhouettes they provide to their overall outfit. Whatever the case may be, the easier method of undergarment storage will make picking out your underwear of choice a more time-consuming task.

If you're storing undergarments in drawers, you can opt for folding or rolling items. This will allow you to stand up items in your drawer rather than piling. Standing items up in your drawer will allow you to see your selection instead of digging for the right pair of knickers. Drawer dividers can still be helpful in delineating sections and also helping things like underwear stand up. While you won't get the instant gratification of dumping your knickers into a bin and calling it a day, that investment of time to fold and place your items will make it easier for you to find specific undergarments on a daily basis.

Lined bras can be set in the drawer with cups nested inside one another. Just tuck all the straps behind the bra cups. Several bra organizers are available for purchase to help hold bras in a drawer. However, if you are more well-endowed, double-check the measurements to ensure the organizer will hold your larger cups.

Another way to make your undergarments more visible is to hang them. This can be particularly useful for lingerie that is more difficult to fold and sets you want to keep together. Specialty hangers can be helpful for hanging bras. And swimsuit hangers are a beautiful way to keep your bra and panty sets together. Hanging undergarments may take less effort than folding, but the price of specialty hangers can add up.

Mix and Match Methods

You may find there are specific undergarments you care more about than others. You may have specialty pieces mixed with everyday panties. You could have pantyhose for everyday purposes and colored tights for creating fun outfits. You also have to consider the limitations of your space when organizing your clothing. If your organizing style is a combination of not wanting to put effort into putting away items but also wanting some things to be visual, then you could use the easier method for the things you wear every day that are more "grab and go" items, and the other items are hung or reserved in a different drawer. So, feel free to experiment with various methods for different items.

Finding the right organizing system is a balance of the time it takes to put away stuff versus the time it takes to retrieve stuff. You have to determine which stage is the more significant challenge. So, take some time to observe your habits for putting away and retrieving your undergarments to find the best method or combination of strategies that will work best for you. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, so don't be afraid to try something you haven't seen anyone do before. If it works for you and makes your life easier, then it's the perfect organizational system for you.
